Why play sport ?!?!

Posted by myadmin on 31st October 2009

For children everywhere, it is easy to become stimulated by the various technology and other things that are around them.  For some, it may seem like a struggle to tear your child away from the technology that is so available and ready for them.  If you want to make sure that your child is receiving a well-rounded childhood, then there are options that you can consider in order to make sure that they benefit from being young.

With all of the abilities for youth to stay indoors, it is best to begin to show them that being outdoors can be just as beneficial.  Playing sports will not only help them to get the activities that there body needs, but will help them to keep the ideal of staying shape in mind when they are older.  It is becoming more common for children and youth to grow up overweight or obese, even from the age of five.  The problem is becoming so prevalent, that several children are having problems such as type two diabetes and asthma.

No matter what age your child is, they should be getting some type of physical activity every day.  It doesn’t need to be anything vigorous, but should be something to get them moving and away from the easier stimulation in front of the television or Internet.  If your child is moving for at least thirty minutes a day, it will prevent the problems that children are growing up to have with their health.  By having something where the child is being encouraged to move around and is doing it with their peers, it will be easier to build a foundation for good physical health through activity.

If you are interested in your child staying healthy, then making sure that they play sports will give you the ability to become substantial in what they need for their physical health.  It will first prevent complications in their current health, beginning with obesity, and going into more severe problems.  Making sure that they stay physically healthy will also stay with them for the rest of their lives, making sure that they understand the importance of moving throughout the day.

Don’t Sacrifice Professionalism for Flame Resistance

Posted by myadmin on 21st July 2009

mensShirtIf you have a job that takes you close to high heat or open flame, you need flame resistant clothing or fire retardant clothing to keep you safe. However, you still have a job to do. Even if your job is dangerous, you need to put forward a professional image and you need work clothes that help you get the job done right.

DRIFIRE understands this. That’s we create premium flame retardant apparel that keeps you safer. We don’t just coat out clothes with fire-resistant chemicals. Our flame resistant (FR) clothing is flame resistant right down to the fiber because we start with materials that are inherently flame resistant and flame retardant. Our FR apparel is made from modacrylic, a synthetic fiber (flame resistant fabrics) that is safe and has been in use since the 1940s. Modacrylic is not only hard to set on fire, but it actually has fire extinguishing properties. This means our garments made from modacrylic will not drip, fuse to your skin, or burn. Unlike FR clothing simply dipped in fire-retardant chemicals, DRIFIRE FR clothes will stay flame resistant. The flame resistant properties can’t be laundered away in the wash.

Since DRIFIE FR clothing is made from modacrylic, we can make clothing that is relatively professional-looking and helps you work at your best. Since our fire resistant clothing is made from modacrylic and is inherently flame resistant, we don’t have to coat our clothes with thick protective layers. Wearing our FR clothes is like wearing regular work clothes – light and comfortable. DRIFIRE FR clothes are comfortable and light and even have moisture-wicking properties to keep you dry and comfortable on the job. You don’t want to be meeting clients in a rubber suit, do you? With DRIFIRE flame resistant clothes, you can put forward a professional image.

Our flexible flame resistant uniforms and clothes can also be sewn just like any other clothing. We can create the styles of clothes your company needs to project the image you want. Our clothes don’t wrinkle easily, thanks to the synthetic fiber, and wash easily in a washing machine with no extra fuss. Why wear FR clothes that make you sweat and make you feel as though you’re wearing a heavy space suit? DRIFIRE FR clothes keep you cool and dry and also keep you looking great while they keep you safe on the job. Even the military and firefighting authorities use our clothing to keep those on the front lines feeling and looking professional as they save lives.

Marathon Running Tips and Shoes

Posted by myadmin on 5th July 2009

I love talking with people who are considering running a marathon. I think it is one of the best things that someone can do with their life and health. It is quite funny, however, to sit down with someone that is considering running a marathon to see what their plan of preparation is for their big run. Quite often people have no real plan for preparation.

People will find it very difficult to be ready to run a marathon with success if they haven’t taken weeks or even months to adequately prepare for it. You see, running a marathon is no simple undertaking. Very few (if any) people could do absolutely no preparation and and still be successful in the just over twenty-six mile race. So I love the days when I get to sit down with a prospective marathoner and help them create a preparation plan that suits their needs and time frame while helping them adequately prepare for their big race.

I will share some basic tips for marathon preparation here. Keep in mind that these are only basic tips and that there is much more to be learned and understood before you sign up for the next race. First, I’d suggest that everyone who desires to run a marathon makes a time to talk with a trainer or a fitness coach that can help them along their way. I’ll suggest that there is no better way to prepare for a marathon than to meet with someone that knows what they are talking about and get their suggestions. Another great tip for potential marathon runners is to get a few books and magazines and the topic and just begin to read all you can about it. See what you can learn from pieces of writing that have been written by experts on the subject. You see, in essence, both of my first tips are designed to get you to get help in the process of marathon preparation. You will be far more likely to succeed this way than if you go into it alone.

You may be surprised to learn that there are a large amount of training programs designed to help almost anyone get in shape to run a marathon. I’d suggest that you get your hands on a few of these schedules and then meet with your fitness advisor to see what is the best plan for you. One of the biggest ways that many people fail is not having a specific training program to stick to.

Regardless of when you plan to run a marathon, it is a great idea to get out their and begin running now. Even if you can only jog around your block, the point is to start running now. Slowly get your body used to running and you’ll be much further ahead when it comes for the hard training weeks that precede a marathon. So get educated and then get moving. You’ll be well on your way to enjoying the pleasure of a successful marathon run.

Why do my feet hurt when I run ?

Posted by myadmin on 24th June 2009

If you are a seasoned runner you know the importance of a good running shoe. It can make the difference between a great running experience, or potential injury.

The problem is not being informed. Most people do not know that there is a proper shoe for your foot type. Knowing your foot type before you hit the stores can make a world of difference whether you want to do brisk walking, jogging or marathons.

How do you determine your foot type? It’s really quite simple. Get a piece of dark paper and then soak your feet and step on the paper. Look closely at the imprint. There are generally three types of feet.

1) If your imprint covers most of the feet (not much arch at all) then you have flat feet. You are among the 60% of the population in America with flat feet.

2) If you show a wide arch and narrow line of your outer foot then you have high arches. You are among the 30% of the population of in America.

3) If your imprint has a medium arch then congratulations. You are among the 10% of the population in America with the ideal foot.

Regardless of what foot type you have, there are running shoes that are right for you. As many as 56% of the 30 million runners in America, have injuries from improper shoe selection. So you can see that you do have to do your homework to protect yourself.

With all the pressure one gets from TV adds or what is popular to wear now, you really need to put the health aspect first. Most likely you will be able to find a shoe that is right for your foot type and still have style.

To determine the shoe to buy, here are some guidelines:

1) For the flat-footed person, you will want to buy a shoe that is rigid and stable. This will prevent your ankles from bending inward or outward and it will protect you.

2) If you have high arches, you will want to look for a very cushioned shoe. High arched feet don’t absorb shock very well so you’ll want that cushion to help in absorbing the shock for you.

3) For the medium arch or ideal foot, you want the combination of both stability and cushioning for your feet.

When you try on a shoe it should be snug but not tight and there should be approximately a 1/2-inch between your longest toe and the front of your running shoe. Tip: Shop for your shoes late afternoon when your feet are a little more spread. If it is not comfortable when you are in the store, imagine what it will be like when you are out on a run. So test them well while you’re there.

In summary, those shoes you bought that were such a bargain may be cause for concern in the future, so pick wisely and may your running experience be smooth and wonderful. Your feet will be most grateful.

Advantages of Running Indoors

Posted by myadmin on 24th June 2009

Treadmills have many advantages over real running and walking. Sure, you don’t get to go outdoors in the nature, but you can also avoid bad weather and all the other hazards that come with going out of your house, such as cars and passers-by. It’s much more relaxing to not have to keep your mind and one eye on the potential problems, and just concentrate on your running.

Apart from that, though, there are many more serious benefits. The ground remains at the same level for the whole run, which avoids you having to constantly adjust the way you’re running – you can build up a pace and then keep going. Also, the run is always at the speed you’re most comfortable with, and you can change it whenever you like. If you do want to run uphill, though, you can simulate that too, by adjusting the gradient of the machine.

Another advantage is in all the statistics you can collect about your running: because the machine is setting the pace of the run, it can calculate all sorts of things automatically, such as the amount of energy (calories) you have burned. You can also hook yourself to various monitors – heart rate monitors, breathing monitors, and so on – to check all the different aspects of your health when you run.

One of the best things about running indoors is that you don’t have to be bored while you’re doing it – you can watch TV or read a book while you’re using it. Even though it can be quite relaxing, though, treadmills are still a more effective form of exercise than some complex cardiovascular exercises. Faced with a choice between getting into all sorts of strange positions and contorting my body into odd shapes or just running on a treadmill, I know which one I’d choose.

Choose the proper running shoe

Posted by myadmin on 18th June 2009

Choosing the right running shoe can make a all the difference in whether you stay healthy or become injured running and also determine if you will be comfortable or be in pain while running.

Bargain shopping is the numero uno bigtime mistake made by most novice runners. You run out and by the cheapest pair of running shoes you can find. Trust me, you are not going to find a proper running shoe at Walmart!

Thinking cheap will end up making you quit running due to the sheer misery of having bad shoes. Some of those who are more tenacious may wait until they blow out their knee or have major shin splints before they throw in the towel.

With all the choices and high tech shoes available today, choosing the right pair of running shoes for you can be an arduous task at best. But here are some guidelines to help you.

First you need to understand pronation, which is rolling of the foot from heel to toe through the foot strike. A proper or neutral pronation is hitting the outside of the heel and up to ball of your foot evenly across the front. This is how your foot reduces the stress of impact. Underpronation is not enough evening out so the outside of your foot takes most of the shock instead of finishing in the neutral position. Overpronation is too much roll across from the outside to the inside of your foot. To determine your level of pronation, look at your shoes you walk or run in. Most everyone will begin on the outside of the heel, the real indicator would be the wear on the forefoot.

If most of the shoe wear is:
•    On the medial (inside) side then you Overpronate
•    On the lateral (outside) side then you Underpronate
•    Uniform across the forefoot then you have a Neutral Stride

This knowledge will give you the information you know to select the appropriate running shoe for your foot.
