Nigel Wray: Hailed ‘hugely exciting opportunity’ for Saracens
Saracens have announced they will play a friendly against Fijian champions Nadroga Stallions in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi on March 9.
The English champions will take advantage of a weekend free of domestic commitments to continue their efforts to promote the club abroad.
Saracens were forced to abandon plans to play their Heineken Cup tie with Biarritz in Cape Town in January after being caught up in a local dispute over the location of the game.
Sarries chairman Nigel Wray said: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity for the club.
“We are looking forward to a tough match against a team packed with Fijian internationals and to experiencing the fantastic facilities created at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club.”

Thomas Bjorn: Says the Desert Swing events are hugely popular with the players
Tournament committee chairman Thomas Bjorn says European Tour officials would like to launch a second ‘Desert Swing’.
This week’s Dubai Desert Classic is the final leg of the tour’s annual three-week stint in the Middle East that also takes in the Abu Dhabi Championship and the Qatar Masters.
But Bjorn reckons there is scope to expand.
“We hope places like Oman and Kuwait and maybe Saudi Arabia can also be hosts of European Tour events,” said the Dane, who won three times on Tour last season.
“That would be the tour’s dream, that we could have an extended tour in the Middle East maybe two times a year … preferably have a swing at the beginning of the year and a swing at the end of the year.”
Bjorn is a past winner of two of the three current Desert Swing events and says they are hugely popular.

Lee Westwood: Will it be his week in Dubai?
Lee Westwood is hoping to put two near misses behind him by finally winning this week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
The Englishman has twice been a runner-up at Emirates Golf Club – the most recent in 2010 when he lost a play-off to Miguel Angel Jimenez – but is looking to take the final step and walk away with the trophy after two solid weeks on the Desert Swing .
Last week he was tied 12th at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters and the previous week he finished tied 17th in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, his first event of the season.
“My short game is a little sharper than normal, and the putting is quite nice – I’m starting to roll a few longer ones in. “Westwood on his early 2012 form Quotes of the week
“I’d say if I was making an appraisal of the first couple of weeks, I’ve hit it a lot better than I normally do this time of year,” said Westwood, who won the Dubai Wo <a

Daniel Chopra: The Swede made two holes-in-one during a practice round at Pebble Beach
Daniel Chopra enjoyed a practice round to remember ahead of this week’s AT&T National at Pebble Beach as he made not one, but two holes-in-one at the legendary American lay-out on Monday.
The Swede first aced the iconic postage stamp seventh hole, which famously appears surrounded by the ocean from its elevated tee, and amazingly then repeated the feat at the 17th hole which also backs out on to the Monterey peninsula.
Chopra took a gap wedge to the seventh, which was playing 103 yards, and a seven-iron to the 17th which measured 176 yards.
The 37-year-old was playing alongside rookie Richard H. Lee who posted news of his partner’s incredible achievement via his Twitter account.
Incredible feat
“Just played practice round at Pebble Beach with Danieal (sic) chopra! He had two hole in one today at hole 7 and 17!! Two in one day,” wrote Johnson.

Darren Clarke after winning his Laureus Award
Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke have both added a Laureus Award to the major titles they won last year.
On a festive Monday night in London when tennis ace Novak Djokovic beat a stellar group in winning the ‘World Sportsman of the Year’ Award and Kenya’s 5,000 and 10,000 metre world champion Vivian Cheruiyot edged out golf’s dynamic Yani Tseng to claim the ‘World Sportswoman of the Year’ Award, McIlroy was voted the ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ Award winner and Clarke won the ‘Comeback of the Year’ title.
McIlroy, 22, claimed his award thanks to claiming his first major title with a dazzling eight-shot victory in the US Open at Congressional. It made him the second youngest winner of a major.
His 43-year-old Ulster compatriot, Clarke, got the nod in his category for hoisting himself out of a slump to win The Open Championship at Royal St George’s &#8211 <a

Novak Djokovic: Started the new year in fine style by retaining his title Down Under
Novak Djokovic has continued to pick up trophies after being named Laureus world sportsman of the year at a glittering ceremony in London.
The Serbian enjoyed a quite-stunning 2011 season, clinching the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open grand slam titles.
The reigning world number one has also started the new year in fine style, retaining his title Down Under with a thrilling victory over Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic collected the award in the capital at an event which was also attended by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, former Ajax and Barcelona star Johan Cruyff, and five-time Olympic champion Sir Steve Redgrave.
Kenyan long-distance runner Vivian Cheruiyot took home the sportswoman of the year gong, while Barcelona were named the best team.
Northern Irish golfer Darren Clarke was selected for the comeback of the year for winning the Open Championship at the age of 42, and compatriot Ror <a

Kyle Stanley (L) and Paul Lawrie – weekend winners
Kyle Stanley and Paul Lawrie have both made significant moves in the latest world rankings after their big wins on Sunday.
Stanley shrugged off last week’s final-hole collapse at Torrey Pines to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Arizona and move up 35 places to 52nd.
It means, with a second and a first in the last two weeks, Stanley has risen 98 spots in the last fortnight having been ranked 150th in the world before teeing off in the Farmers Insurance Open.
Former Open champion Lawrie, who won the wind-shortened Commercialbank Qatar Masters for the second time, jumped 31 places from 78th to 47th. If he can now hold his top 50 ranking the Scot will earn a return to The Masters for the first time since 2004.
There was little movement at the very top of the list with Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Steve Stricker all holding their top five positions, but behind them Jason Day’s tied se <a

Paul Lawrie: Back in the world’s top 50 after winning Qatar Masters
Paul Lawrie is back in the world’s top 50 after his victory in the Qatar Masters, and says his game keeps getting better despite his advancing years.
The 43-year-old climbed from 78th to 47th in the world thanks to the win, which he achieved by firing a final round 65 to leave Australian Jason Day and Swede Peter Hanson a distant joint second.
The Scot is now in the top 50 for the time since 2003 as well as being fourth in the race for the Ryder Cup, and he is confident that his form will continue to improve, even claiming that he is a better player now than he was when he won The Open in 1999.
“I feel I’m getting better. I feel my ball-striking has improved immensely since I turned 40,” Lawrie said.
“I’m hitting it a lot further than I probably ever hit it. My short game and putting was probably a little better back in 1999, but I’m a much better player.”
